Sigfredo Mendoza Alonso

Born and raised in Havana, Cuba. Sigfredo attended the San Alejandro School of Fine Arts and graduated with an emphasis in painting and drawing. He worked as the Exhibitions Coordinator for the Centro de Arte Contemporaneo Wilfredo Lam for two years. He joined the Taller Experimental de Grafica de la Habana in 2007 as a printmaker and instructor. In 2007 he earned an honorable mention in La Joven Estampa printmaking competition. In 2009 he immigrated to the United States, settling in Salt Lake City, Utah in 2012. His work has been exhibited internationally and belongs in several private and institutional collections. Sigfredo works with a variety of mediums and themes including a recent exhibition of landscape paintings inspired by the dramatic mountains of the American West.

His current work is inspired by daily life in his native Cuba. His work comes from a deep nostalgia for his home. He looks for places and situations that expose the homesickness of the exiled Cuban community and reveals a desire to someday see those places again.
